Member Energy Options

Designed to allow the REA to continue to supply power in a co-operative spirit. Having those who wish to stick together, pool the expected energy load, and have the REA continue to purchase power for them on a long term basis. Because the contract has a rolling time frame, the energy portfolio will change and thereby changing the future price of the power. The stable rate will change, but it is not expected to change more than twice a year. Commencing January 1, 2008 the rate will be 7.75 cents per Kwh (UFE and Line Loss included) . For reference the price charge for the year of 2007 was 8.25 cents per kWh. Price changes will be posted a minimum 30 days in advance of any change. The stable rate option is the choice recommended by the Board of Directors. The contract is continuous unless 6 months notice by either party is given.

RRO rate
This is the default rate for those who do not want to sign a competitive contract. The rate design is defined by the Government of Alberta. The rate structure changes each July 1st for the next 4 years beginning 2006, and moving toward being 100% market based on July 1st, 2010. Presently the RRO is 60% market based. What this means is, as the percentage of market base increases, so will the fluctuations in the monthly pricing of the RRO. Market based is the current price of power being traded in the electical market.
